Hey there, I'm Abe and cant wait to be serving this summer at Christ in the City!

A little about me: I go to the University of Central Florida (Go Knights!) and study Mechanical Engineering. I love Rock Climbing, Volleyball, Dance, and anything spontaneous. These are all a fun part of identity but the true core of it all is my constant pursuit of faith. Born a Muslim, I always desired to seek a personal relationship God that was full and honest. It didn't take long to find out the truth wasn't there but it shattered me, I spiraled from atheism to agnosticism to landing on Christianity in 2020 during Covid. What's funny is that in my bitterness towards Christanity, God softened my heart to the Gospel and I recieved him into my heart later that year. Its been a long way and an interesting journey that I've traversed but through his strength and not my own, I know that all is possible. This leads up to the question of why Christ in the City?

One of the greatest poverties in the world is the poverty of loneliness. Mother Teresa called this Poverty of Loneliness “The greatest disease in the West today.” In her words, “the only cure for loneliness, despair, and hopelessness is love.” This is the mission of Christ in the City, to know, love and serve the poor.

This past spring, I had the privilage of shadowing Christ in the City missionaries and can witness to that true purpose of service. It set my heart on fire to serve in a capacity that I never have, and through much discernment, it lead me to apply for Summer of Service with Christ in the City! To just have a time away from the distractions of life, spent as a servant of the Lord in true selflessness to our friends on the streetis a mission I'm excited for. With all this said, I hope that this encourages you to make your decision partnering with me!
